Reflection:
With this single image, I tried to capture the essence of my friend Dekin playing guitar and my roommate Jacob trying to block the noise out! I only had my phone to take the shot and Dekin happened to have his guitar with him that day. I think it turned out to be a pretty interesting story
I really liked how the lighting came out in this picture. I tried to follow the rule of thirds by cropping the image in Photoshop. One criticism that I have is the fact that my guitar looks like it is coming out of Jacob’s (right) back like Godzilla. I think the story is pretty easy to follow. This was obviously shot in my dorm room, so the photo already gives off a setting being about college students living on campus. The guitar and headphones on Jacob convey to the audience, that the guitar playing is probably unpleasant or loud. If I did this again, I would have definitely taken the picture in a cleaner environment so there would be less to look at besides the main focus.
Through this project, I learned that quantity helps when taking a photo that will capture everything. For this project, I took about 12-15 photos, but only 2-3 photos were decent enough to be used. I also learned how to manipulate images (cropping and brightness) through Photoshop which was pretty neato!
Neato.
You can definitely tell the story behind this picture. It’s tough living in the dorms sometimes. I remember my freshman year, the guy who lived across the hall from me played electric guitar *SuPeR* loud every morning at ten.
He was basically my alarm clock…
Good job with this one!

Haha, that sounds terrible. I hope you have found better neighbors!

I appreciate you telling us how many photo attempts it took; it makes me feel much better about struggling to get the angle quite right. Nice use of the rule of thirds! I also like the silent emotions going on between them

Great job! This is a very easy to follow story which is hard to do in just one picture. Before I even read below your image I had already guessed that the person playing the guitar was awful or very obnoxious. Or even if the person playing is very good the other person just does not want to have to listen to it right now. I think this is a relatable situation because we have all had siblings, roommates or neighbors who were making noises at times we wish they weren’t. Good job on using the rule of thirds. I also found it hard to capture a good image for my story with just one photo. I had to take mine multiple times as well.

I also love the lighting in your photo, and I think your idea is super funny and great. I think the photo is well balanced and tells a good story, something that is really difficult to do in only one photo. Nice job!

I really liked the balance in the photo. The subject is in the upper left and your eye is immediately drawn to him. I then realized another person who obviously wasn’t having a good time with him playing piano. I can relate to the person on the floor as both of my brothers are in band and like to practice in the morning.

I like the theme of this photo. Some people do not like the extra noise and want it quiet where as some love to just play with their instrument. This picture is a tale of two stories, you can either see it as it is bad guitar playing, or you can see it as he just wants it to be quiet! I think the only way this could have been improved upon was moving some of the background objects, such as the deodorant and whatever else is on the window sill. Besides that, you did a great job!
